Following in the footsteps of Netgear and Buffalo Technology, Cisco’s Linksys home wireless networking routers have upgraded to 802.11ac equipment. The company has also enabled a cloud-based platform to facilitate configuration and control of its “Smart Wi-Fi Routers,” according to Network World.
The new unit comes with two USB ports and four Gigabit Ethernet ports for wired clients. It will go on sale in early August at Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Walmart and New Egg.
Companies that already have 802.11ac Wi-Fi routers available for purchase are Netgear with its R6300 and R6200 Wi-Fi routers and Buffalo Technology’s AC1300/N900 (WZR-D1800H).
Due out in September is the Linksys Universal Media Connector with AC (model WUMC710). It’s a wireless bridge that will come with four Gigabit Ethernet ports that consumers can connect wirelessly to the 802.11ac router.
For cloud enthusiasts is the Cisco Connect Cloud software platform for the EA6500 as well as additional Smart Wi-Fi Routers, the EA2700, EA3500 and EA4500.
