The Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference, from July 8-12, 2012, was an exciting event for both Microsoft and its partners. It gave Microsoft a chance to make many announcements, some of which Microsoft partners have eagerly anticipated. It also gave partners a chance to talk with Microsoft representatives, who they might not otherwise have access to, as well as mingle with colleagues in their industry.

One truly astounding piece of news was the announcement that Microsoft Office is used on one billion machines around the world. Microsoft Office president Kurt DelBene and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer also announced that 1.3 billion people use Windows, and the company has sold 680 million Windows 7 licenses to date.

Microsoft executives also used the conference to announce that Windows 8 will go on October 26, along with the Surface tablet, the software giant’s new hardware offering.

New computers and software always come with unique challenges that managed IT services providers must know how to help their clients overcome.  So, while the rest of the world anticipates the official market release dates of all of Microsoft’s newest products, Microsoft partners are already getting acquainted with the preview versions.

Microsoft partners have a lot to look forward to in the coming months as they prepare themselves for the onslaught of questions and concerns that are bound to come their way as business leaders decide whether or not Microsoft’s new products will be a good fit for their businesses.
