lot has been written about what Windows 8 has to offer, but few ever talk about what it lacks. One thing that the Windows 8 operating system will lack is CD and DVD playback capability as a standard component, according to post on Microsoft’s website.
Says Microsoft, “For optical disc playback on new Windows 8 devices, we are going to rely on the many quality solutions on the market, which provide great experiences for both DVD and Blu-ray.”
Since the Windows 8 operating system will be compatible with laptops and desktops as well as tablets, this could cause a problem. While it may be true that video streaming through YouTube, Hulu, etc. and streaming music through Pandora, Spotify, etc. is more popular than watching a movie or television program or listening to music by uploading a DVD, people still often use CDs and DVDs for business.
The lack of CD or DVD playback capabilities could certainly cause some small-business owners to think twice about switching to Windows 8 right away. Then again, the missing capability could be just the motivation that some business leaders need to stop using cumbersome, time sucking tools like CDs and DVDs and start transferring more data to cloud storage and using thumb drives.
You can’t have everything. Those who have already jumped on the Windows 8 bandwagon have already discovered that they can’t play CDs or DVDs on their computers without buying – in addition to the Windows 8 operating system — a Windows Media Center Pack or Windows 8 Pro Pack.
